Does Punxsutawney Phil really look for his shadow on Groundhogs Day? Do ostriches really stick their heads in the sand? Do hyenas really laugh when they capture prey? Separate fact from fiction during Animal Myth Day, February 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visit Discovery Stations around the Zoo to learn about myths associated with lions, rhinos, koalas, elephants and more.

Each station will explore popular myths associated with an animal and provide facts to better understand the animal's behavior. More Discovery Stations will be inside the Colores Education building for guests who wish to learn more or find the weather too chilly.

"Many animal myths stem from simple misunderstanding," said Kathryn Venzor, BioPark Education Curator. "By exploring animal behavior in-depth, people may discover where animal myths originate, as well as better appreciate animals and their unique traits.

Other popular myths include porcupines shooting their quills at predators, rattlesnakes sounding their rattles before striking, and toads causing warts. Come to the Zoo February 2 and see if your animal myths are true.

Animal Myth Day is included with regular admission.
